Green light for Camden Foodbank
51ĀŅĀ×’s Planning team has successfully secured a change of use for a site in Camden Town on behalf of Camden Foodbank. The site will become the charity’s new, larger premises when it opens in November.

Demonstrating its commitment to social impact and community engagement, the team at 51ĀŅĀ× provided the planning consultancy advice entirely on a pro bono basis.
The site was previously an existing commercial unit (Use Class E), and 51ĀŅĀ× sought a change of use to B8 (Storage and Distribution).
51ĀŅĀ× worked alongside architect Sheppard Robson on the pro bono project, which was also supported by the London Borough of Camden. James Bylina, a Principal Planner at 51ĀŅĀ× who led the planning application, said: āThis was a great example of the private and public sectors working together to support a charitable project. To reduce the planning risk owing to the loss of E Class commercial space in the borough, 51ĀŅĀ× suggested an upfront condition ā applied to the planning permission and tied to Camden Foodbankās occupation ā which stated that the buildingās use would revert to Use Class E should the occupier vacate.ā
Camden Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust and was established in 2012. It is a free-to-use, non-profit registered charity located in Camden Town, which supports local adults and children living in food poverty. Since the foodbank was established, it has provided over 38,000 food parcels to the local community.
