London has long been a global stage for pioneering architecture - celebrated each June during the month-long London Festival of Architecture. From its iconic skyline to its residential streets, design plays a defining role in shaping the capital. Here we explore a curated selection of exceptional - and at times unexpected - homes, ranging from modernist masterpieces to beautifully restored period properties with striking contemporary twists.
River House is an imposing detached period home on one of Richmondโs most prestigious streets, remarkable in both stature and setting. Positioned on a generous plot overlooking the River Thames, it offers direct access to The River Grounds, part of the exclusive Pleasure Gardens โ a 12-acre sanctuary space solely for residents.
Spanning approximately 7,284 sq ft, this meticulously renovated six-bedroom family home blends timeless elegance with modern luxury. The extensive amenities include a games room, a fully equipped gym, and a wine cellar complete with a walk-in fridge and bar, ready for entertaining. A highlight is the bespoke kitchen, which flows seamlessly into a stunning glass extension. This light-filled space, designed as a sitting and dining area, provides an exceptional vantage point to unwind and take in the breathtaking river views.

Making a striking first impression, this exceptional contemporary home has views of central London, private and communal gardens and three parking spaces. This expansive property was a bespoke commission and is situated in a pocket of woodland, offering a mix of peaceful green space and access to local amenities in Dulwich Village, Crystal Palace and West Dulwich.
As soon as you enter, the striking architectural details set a dramatic tone. Downstairs, there are exquisite parquet and polished concrete floors, a cinema room, a luxurious German kitchen and the living room includes a cosy fireplace. The principal suite occupies the entire top floor, with a dressing area and luxurious en suite bathroom with a free-standing bath overlooking the treetops.

This striking detached property was recently redesigned by ex-Foster and Partners architects and seamlessly fuses its Arts and Crafts heritage with bold contemporary details. This one-of-a-kind family home has been thoughtfully designed with exceptional attention to both the design and functionality. At the heart of the house is a stone-clad open-plan living space anchored by a double-height atrium with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that flood the space with light.
The state-of-the-art kitchen was handmade by an atelier in Rome and there is also a cinema room, which is perfect for effortless entertaining. The principal bedroom suite is the epitome of luxury and comfort and has a secluded roof terrace, generous walk-in dressing area and spa-like en suite bathroom.
